Google Lit. Trips is a great site that offers the ability to map out a story using Google Earth. Google Lit. Trips also has lesson plans for teachers as well. The site has many great books such as Possum Magic, Bud Not Buddy, and many other great reads.

VideoNot.es

VideoNot.es is a great resource for students to use when they are watching a movie. This site allows you to connect via Google drive. You then can have the notes on one side of the screen while the video plays on the other. I like to use this site to model to students how to take notes from a video.

National Computer Science Week

Today I was introduced to a great site called Code.  Students can learn how to write basic computer code. This site would be great to use for extensions.  LearnCode.org has videos and lesson plans for teachers to use in class.

PBS Learning Media

I am always looking for new sites that have videos to use class to support flipped learning.  I recently heard about PBS Learning Media.  PBS Learning Media looks like it will become one of my go to sites for videos to support my curriculum.  Once you create a free account you can create folders to save favorite videos to access later.  This site has a multitude of great videos on every topic.

ifaketext.com

ifaketext.com is a fun site that allows students to make fake text messages.  Students write a name, click a fake carrier, and then start their text message.  This site would be great to use during reading time.  Students could have a conversation between two characters.  Students could also share information they have learned on a research project by partnering up and writing their text messages together.

Zamzar

Every once in a while students will make a movie that will need to be converted to a certain format that is compatible with our class website.  When I am in need of converting a movie I turn to Zamzar. Once you create a free account you are able to convert to most any format you could need. I highly recommend Zamzar.

Fake Tweet Builder

Today I learned of a great site called Fake Tweet Builder.  Fake Tweet Builder always students to make fake Tweets.  Fake Tweet Builder has a lot of great possibilities in the classroom.  Teachers could have students create a fake conversation between two characters in a story.  Students could do research on a topic and become the expert and tweet information learned.  Students could also practice new spelling or vocabulary words by tweeting with each other on the stream.

I can't wait to give Fake Tweet Builder a try.

Google Connect Classrooms

Google released their Google Connect Classrooms on Nov. 4th.  Google Connect offers Virtual Field Trips for classrooms around the world. Google uses Google + Hanouts On Air as a place for students to have opportunities to ask questions from experts.  I first learned about Google Connects from Free Technology for Teachers.  There are some great upcoming events.

Scoop it!

I first learned about Scoop.It! a few years ago.  I have once again began using it in my classroom to curate websites for students to us during research units.  Scoop.it! is a wonderful site that has a magazine feel to it.  Scoop.It works similar to Delicious in the sense that it has a Scoop.It! button you can add to your tool bar. Simply click and you have add it to your collections of sites.  You can then link or embed the Scoop.It! collection into a website.

Digital Public Library of America

The Digital Public Library of America is a fantastic site full of manuscripts, moving images, sounds, photographs and much more that is free to the public. This site connects allows users to browse and search collections by timeline, map, format, and save items to customized list, and share their lists with others.  This is a great resource to use in the classroom.

Recipe4Success

Recipe4Success is an old favorite of mine.  This website allows you to make your own scoring guides. Once you have selected the criteria Recipe4Success will also generate a student checklist to go along with the scoring guide. You can choose from a list of criteria or make up your own.  This is my go to scoring guide generator.

Schoology

Schoology is a greaton line classroom  program.  Schoology allows you to set up a class. Students then are given an access code and can join your class. Schoology allows you to assign assignments to students and they in turn can post them back to you. Check out Schoology if you are flipping your classroom.

Fakebook

I recently found a great website called Fakebook.  My students have had a lot of fun researching famous gifted people and making a Fakebook page of information.  Fakebook is just like Facebook.  Students write posts as if they are the famous person. Tellagami

I recently found a great app called Tellagami.  Tellagami is an app that allows students to animate a character.  This app is fun to use and has a lot different uses.  Students can create stories and have the animation tell the story.  Going on a field trip?  Have the students come back and make an animation of what they have learned.  Check out Tellagami.

Character Scrapbook



Character Scrapbook by Scholastic is a great site to use during reading to help students analyze characters in books they are reading.  The Character Scrapbook allows students to digital draw what they think a character would look like.  After drawing the character students complete a list of ten things they know about the character, details about the character, describe the character, challenges the character may face, and personality of the character. Feedly


Google Reader will be closing in July.  Thanks to A Media Specialist's Guide To Internet website I have found a good alternative to Google Reader.  You can import all of your feeds into Feedly.  There is also an app for Android, iPhones, and Kindles. Pin It

Class Dojo



I thought I would share an old favorite for classroom behavior management. Class Dojo   is a great site to use to track students behavior.  I like to use it to keep track of students work in cooperative groups.  I track their participation and behavior.  I pull of Class Dojo on my iPAD or Smart phone and walk around recording students behavior. Class Dojo is easy to set up and use.  Results for behaviors can be shown in a graph for students to see.  Parents can also be emailed the results as well. Pin It

Google Chrome Apps

I have recently been exploring Google Chrome's App store. I ran across several Apps that are very helpful to teachers and students.  I have listed some of my favorites below.

1. Typing Club is a great App for learning to type on the computer correctly.
2. Tweet Deck is a great way for teachers to organize their Twitter.
3. Google Forms has an App that makes it easy to make new forms on Google Drive.
4. The Teacher Tube App is a great App to access this site with ease.

Today we played Who Has More to practice comparing decimals. We used a ten sided dice and rolled it three times. We used zero as our whole number to start. We then compared our number to our partners. The largest number won.

KidBlog.org is a great student blogging site.  Simply create a class and enter in your class.  Students can create their own blogs.  I make a different page for each student to have their own blog page.  Viewers need to belong to the blog to be able the view the blog.

Test Designer

I recently was introduced to a new website called Test Designer.  Test Designer is a wonderful website with banks of questions you can pick from to make up your own tests.  You also can make up your own questions as well.  The basic membership is free.  There are more options for the paid version.  Check out Test Designer.
