ifaketext.com

ifaketext.com is a fun site that allows students to make fake text messages.  Students write a name, click a fake carrier, and then start their text message.  This site would be great to use during reading time.  Students could have a conversation between two characters.  Students could also share information they have learned on a research project by partnering up and writing their text messages together.

Zamzar

Every once in a while students will make a movie that will need to be converted to a certain format that is compatible with our class website.  When I am in need of converting a movie I turn to Zamzar. Once you create a free account you are able to convert to most any format you could need. I highly recommend Zamzar.

Fake Tweet Builder

Today I learned of a great site called Fake Tweet Builder.  Fake Tweet Builder always students to make fake Tweets.  Fake Tweet Builder has a lot of great possibilities in the classroom.  Teachers could have students create a fake conversation between two characters in a story.  Students could do research on a topic and become the expert and tweet information learned.  Students could also practice new spelling or vocabulary words by tweeting with each other on the stream.

I can't wait to give Fake Tweet Builder a try.

Scoop it!

I first learned about Scoop. It! a few years ago.  I have once again began using it in my classroom to curate websites for students to us during research units.  Scoop.it! is a wonderful site that has a magazine feel to it.  Scoop. It works similar to Delicious in the sense that it has a Scoop. It! button you can add to your tool bar. Simply click and you have add it to your collections of sites.  You can then link or embed the Scoop. It! collection into a website.
